ABSTRACT:
The present study has been carried out to investigate the genotoxic effect of Cashew nut kernel oil by Drosophila melangastro (fruit fly) and on Allium cepa root (meristamatric tip) methods. Different concentration of Cashew nut kernel oil in ethanol were selected and subjected for sterility test and dominant lethal test by using Drosophilla. For Allium cepa method, each concentration of test oil was applied for different times 12h, 24h and 48h. The obtained result indicates that the cashew nut kernel oil had the ability to cause genotoxic effect at 0.03% v/v concentration in ethanol and also cause different mitotic changes. These various changes appeared in depending on the duration of treatment. The results obtained from both sterility test and dominant lethal test found that Cashew nut kernel oil increases the lethality in flies while the concentration of oil increases.
